Honourable Justice Ekwo’s last week’s decision to relieve David Umahi, his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, along with 15 lawmakers in the state of their job over their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), may have been a turning point in Nigeria’s political structure. With the newly signed electoral act of 2022, Umahi’s case may have set a new precedent in addressing the prevalent act of political prostitution. Cross Rivers State Governor, Benedict Bengioushuye Ayade is the latest to sit up in fear of suffering the fate of his Ebonyi State counterpart. Ayade had come out openly to deny official involvement with APC.In a sworn affidavit, the 54-year-old claimed he isn’t a registered member of APC but had merely gone there to make ‘friends’. In the same vein, 5 serving Law Makers in Cross Rivers have made U-turn; dump APC and return to PDP as the plot thickens for 2023 general election.
