It has been a thing of worry by the people of the state on the explosion that took lives at Abaeze Ohaji-Egbema local government of Imo state Nigeria few days ago.
However, the Government opposition took it as a moment of casting spells on the executive GOVERNOR of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma without presenting good views and modalities to avert such incident in the near furture having in mind that Imo state belongs to all Imolites.
The reaction was as a result of the delay by his press secretary to make a press release to this effect which now added more salt to the tension because it was as if the governor was insensitive of the desaster that took place while he was away enjoying and showcasing his golf play-off at Obinze.
Meanwhile the golf event took place at a different time at the Obinze Golf Course, in the company of the Deputy Governor Prof. Placid Njoku, where the governor joined great Golfers across the Nation for the Ceremonial Tee-Off of the Arsenal Open Golf Tournament in Nigeria.
At the golf course, Uzodinma told Pressmen that while golf is considered a sport of the elite, it is more of a mind game than a physical game as it looks to be. Therefore, success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character.
He commended the organizer’s choice of Owerri for the 2022 Tournament while stating that this is an acknowledgement of the improved safety his Government has secured across the State.
He added that as a hospitable State, his Government will ensure a hitch-free event for the Golfers by beefing up security across the State.
On the EXPLOSION that took lives in ABAEZE Ohaji-Egbema local government area, Uzodinma stated that he received with rude shock, the unfortunate loss of lives at the pipeline explosion in Ohaji/Egbema as a result of illegal bunkering activities around the region.
He maitained that this is one of the unexpected occurrences that has informed the campaign and fight against criminality and banditry in our society. He said that he has been consistent in preaching against any practice that could lead to national economic sabotage and jeopardy.
While it remains pathetic that lives have been lost, this unfortunate incident calls for a redress by all who are in that illicit practice, to turn a new leaf and save lives, GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma stated.
Recall that at the instance of the governor, the Imo State Commissioner for Petroleum, Rt. Hon. Goodluck Nanah Opiah visited the affected area.
Uzodinma assured that his Government shall review the breached protocols and implement necessary procedures to avert a reoccurrence. The added voice of the governor has shown that he is very sensitive of the feelings of Imo people while consoling the families affected by the unfortunate incident.
