Abuja, Nigeria – The capital city witnessed a spectacular cultural fusion as Prophet Samuel Okafor of Ezeoye Nibo Village, Awka South, Anambra State, and Nkoyo Essien of Ikot Etim Village, Nsit Ubium, Akwa Ibom State, sealed their union in a grand traditional marriage ceremony on Friday at Akwa Ibom House, Abuja. The event, graced by prominent dignitaries, family members, and well-wishers, was a vibrant display of culture, love, and unity.
Under the auspices of the Akwa Ibom community in Abuja, led by President Adede Barr Aniefiok Ibah JP, and recognizing Nkoyo’s significant role as a prominent welfare officer, the ceremony was nothing short of regal. The father of the day and chairman of the occasion, Dr. Emmanuel J. Umoh, set the tone with an opening remark emphasizing the divinity of marriage and God’s favor in the union. His speech paved the way for the formal introduction of both families, with the groom’s parents presenting the customary drink to seek the bride’s hand in marriage through the guidance of the bride’s spokesperson, Akparawa Ime Ndueso.
Following tradition, Prophet Samuel Okafor along with friends, made a grand entrance, soon joined by his radiant bride, Nkoyo Essien.
In line with Akwa Ibom marriage customs, formalities were observed, including the symbolic testing of the groom’s ability to care for his bride. The pinnacle of the ceremony was the official pronouncement of the couple as husband and wife, by the father of the day, marked by the ceremonial cutting of the wedding cake. The joyous occasion culminated in an electrifying dance session, as guests celebrated with the newlyweds in a display of cultural richness and camaraderie.

The festivities continued with a heartfelt Thanksgiving service on Sunday at Shiloh Word Chapel, where Bishop Uko Osukuwem officiated. The cleric delivered a powerful sermon on the biblical principles of marriage, underscoring the roles of love and respect between husband and wife. With solemn prayers and blessings, he declared, “What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.”

Expressing his gratitude,to friends and well wishers who made it to the church, including the diasporans, and political class, Prophet Samuel Okafor acknowledged the significance of waiting for the right partner, emphasizing that he chose to marry at a time when he was sure of his heart’s desire. “Many rush into marriage and rush out. I wanted something lasting, and I am grateful to God for blessing me with a helper,” he remarked.
The grand wedding celebration ended in an atmosphere of joy, thanksgiving, and memorable moments that will be cherished for years to come.
