Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has talked about the importance of innovation in enhancing agricultural production and food security in Nigeria.
He said that there is the need to invest in innovative ideas to enhance agricultural productivity in the country.
Zulum said this while speaking at the 24th National Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers held at the Nigerian Society of Engineers headquarters in Abuja.
Stating further, he emphasised the role of technology in achieving adequate and sustainable agricultural production.
He advocated for the utilization of artificial intelligence and biotechnology in the development of agriculture in the country.
“As we gather here, we recognise the urgent need for innovative solutions to address the pressing challenges facing our country. I believe that this conference offers a unique opportunity to share knowledge, foster collaboration and explore the potential of emerging technologies to revolutionise agriculture.
“By harnessing the power of technology such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology, among others, we can develop sustainable and resilient food systems to meet the needs of the growing population while protecting our natural resources,” he explained.
Similarly, the governor talked about good governance and the role of citizens in helping leaders in ensuring good and effective leadership.
The governor was accompanied to the event by the APC Chairman, Borno State, Bello Ayuba, Member representing Marte, Monguno and Nganzai constituency at the House of Representatives, Engr Bukar Talba.
Others are; elder statesman, Musa Inuwa Kubo and the Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe.
