Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has lashed out at former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over recent comments made by the latter concerning hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists on Saturday, Wike questioned Amaechi’s credibility and motives, accusing him of using his 60th birthday celebration to mislead Nigerians.
“I don’t know why a man would choose his 60th birthday to tell lies to Nigerians that they’re hungry.
“Eight years as Speaker, eight years as Governor, you never spoke about hunger. Suddenly, you have found your voice.” Wike said.
Wike, who served as Governor of Rivers State after Amaechi, suggested that his predecessor lacked the moral grounds to criticize the current economic situation, having failed to address similar concerns while in power.
Amaechi recently made headlines for lamenting the state of the nation, asserting that many Nigerians, including those in politics, are facing hunger.
The comment sparked a wave of responses, particularly among political actors from Rivers State.
Wike’s remarks reflect the deepening political rivalry between the two former governors, who have long been at loggerheads over the leadership and political direction of Rivers State.
