The Elder’s Council of Owerri zone which comprised nine local government areas in Imo state Nigeria has jointly endorsed the STATE CHARTER OF EQUITY and willingly agreed on Uzodinma’s SECOND TERM Bid as governor.
The charter is aimed at rotating the Governorship seat of the state accordingly without anchoring such position to a particular zone, 9News Nigeria reports.

Recall that Imo state have three Political zones or blocs comprising of Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe. And it is of the best interest of the generality of Imo people the applaud this gesture established by Elder’s Council.
The governorship seat of Imo state have since been domiciled in Orlu zone since the inception of Achike Udenwa whereby making Owerri and Okigwe zones second-class citizens as alleged.
But the immediate passage of this law will no doubt lead to it’s immediate implemention at the end of the second tenure of Uzodinma’s administration.
The Elder’s council has therefore pushed the bill to be passed into law by the 9th Assembly with the unassailable efforts of the majority leader Rt. Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi, who hail from Owerri Zone.
Speaking at the session of stakeholders and elders held in Owerri Monday May 1st, 2023, Majority Leader 9th Assembly, IMHA, Kanayo Onyemaechi highlighted the works of Governor Hope Uzodinma as numerous and aligned with the endorsement and passage of law of the Imo charter of equity.
Our government House correspodent in Owerri reports that by the agreement and general acceptability of the charter of equity, governorship seat will be rotatory from zone to zone without further altercations.
This will be enforced at the completion of the second tenure of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma who have shown capacity to turn around the state with massive developmental projects.
In his words, Chief Lemmy Akakem maintained that the moves by Owerri Elder’s council to embrace this gesture is the best thing that has happened to Imo people and called on Imolites to support the charter.
His Royal Majesty, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya reassured the people of Owerri zone of a keen application and follow up of the bill to it’s safe passage into law by the 9th House, Imo state House of Assembly.
The Elder’s council willingly agreed to allow governor Hope Uzodinma to go for a second tenure after which the seat will shit to Owerri Zone and to Okigwe zone smoothly.
Meanwhile, the Eight years of Governor Hope Uzodinma is not contestable with this development while the electorates are looking up to Owerri zone and Orlu zone to take their turns respectively as agreed.
Majority Leader Kanayo Onyemaechi who hinted that this particular bill has been until this moves made by the Owerri zone Elder’s Council to activate it’s passage into law, promised Ndi Owerri zone and Imo people at large of it’s speedy passage, hence the outcome of the stakeholders meeting.
The meeting was highly tactical and success recorded having notable stakeholders and elders from Owerri Zone in attendance.
