Imo: Residents Call For Construction Of Nekede Old Road, As Demolition Of No-1 Shanties In Progress

IMO: The Government of Imo state Nigeria has continued to embark in demolition of shanties and criminal hideout within Owerri and surbub towns as a way of making the state a criminal free environment ripe for business and residential purposes.

Today Thursday 27th July 2023 all the Shanties at number one bus stop Old Nekede Road are demolished by the authority of the state government as 9News Nigeria reports.

9News Nigeria reports that the area was spotted to be a hideout and a Den Of Hoodlums for decades. Alot of criminal activities were done at this location which is the closest town to the municipality.

However, in the continued efforts of government to cleanse the state of criminality , his Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma has directed through his agency saddled with the responsibility of evacuating shanties across the state to delve into action without delay.

Acting on several security reports of existence of a criminal hideout under some shanties at Owerri on the riverine area of old Nekede Number 1, the state capital have demolished the criminal hideout.

Raiding the hideout, suspected criminals suspected to being behind some of the recent criminal activities such house robberies by group of robbers, pickpockets and phone snatchers were evacuated and those found with weapons were arrested.

Penultimate day, a victim of the criminals who failed to part with his money to the criminals were tied with ropes and thrown into the river as gathered.

Our source said the shanties aside serving as launchpads for the criminal elements to perpetuate their criminal activities also served as a den of hard drug peddlers and gun runners.

As the state government continues to solicit for information from the people in the avowed fight against crimes and criminality in the state, the residents of the area have beckon on the Governor to mobilize the construction of same old road from the area of evacuation down to number 12bus stop towards Umuoma Nekede.

The Nekede old road has remained so bad after little efforts were made to construct a tunnel close to the former zoological garden.
