Communities in Isikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State have reaffirmed their support for the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, citing road, education, and human capital development projects attracted to the area.
The communities spoke during Kalu’s tour of Isikwuato, where he visited Ward 5, Oguduasa, Avuvu, Nunya, Isuamawu Ward 4 in Eluama, Umubiala Ward 12 and Otamkpa Ward 3.
During the engagements, the former Abia State governor presented his stewardship to residents and also listened to concerns raised by community leaders, women and youths.
Kalu said his representation had facilitated the construction and renovation of over 100 classroom blocks across Abia North, road projects, scholarships, international training programmes and other empowerment initiatives.
He said Isikwuato had benefited from the interventions, adding that his visits were also aimed at identifying areas requiring further attention.
The senator, who described Isikwuato as the “Land of Generals”, said he shared a unique bond with the people and would continue to work with communities across the local government area.
“Our bond remains strong. We will continue to listen, engage and partner with our communities for a better Abia North,” Kalu said.
Beyond constituency projects, Kalu also highlighted his activities in the National Assembly, including bills and motions on education, taxation, food security and other national issues.
Some of the projects associated with his representation in Isikwuato include interventions at Central School Amune-Ovim, Amiyi Uhu Central School and Umerem Central School, as well as road projects in parts of the local government area.
Speaking during the tour, a woman leader, Dr Lilian Obewo, popularly known as Igolo, commended Kalu for what she described as effective representation and his efforts in attracting projects to Abia North.
Obewo said the senator had given Abia North a strong voice in the National Assembly while maintaining regular engagement with his constituents.
She listed road construction, renovation of schools, educational support, scholarships, youth empowerment and international training opportunities among interventions recorded under Kalu’s representation.
According to her, the senator’s visits to communities also provided residents with an opportunity to present their challenges directly to him rather than relying solely on intermediaries.
Residents at the various wards also raised concerns over infrastructure and other community needs, urging the senator to sustain his interventions in the area.
Responding, Kalu acknowledged the challenges presented by the communities and assured them that their concerns would receive attention.
He said his approach to representation would continue to be based on engagement and partnership with the people, adding that more interventions would be pursued across Isikwuato and other parts of Abia North.
