The joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered 2,658 illegal admissions conducted by 17 tertiary institutions during the the 2025 academic session.
The board revealed that the affected schools bypassed its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which regulates and validates all admission offers nationwide.
According to data obtained from the board’s institutional analysis, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University tops the list with 1,847 illegal admissions, followed by Osun State University with 492 cases.
Other institutions include AbubakarcTatari Polytechnic, University of Calabar, and Redeemer’s University.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, warned that institutions found guilty of such irregularities would face sanctions, including withdrawal of accreditation and disciplinary measures for complicit officials.
JAMB maintained that admission conducted outside CAPS remain invalid, and students involved risk losing eligibility for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
