Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended a recent graduate and a current student of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) for allegedly producing and distributing cannabis-infused cupcakes to students.
The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Khadijat Abdulraheem and 20-year-old Ayomide Morakinyo, were arrested on December 29, 2024, at Oke-Odo, Ilorin following a search of their apartment, which led to the seizure of 42 pieces of the drug-laced cupcakes.
The NDLEA’s swift action indicates the agency’s commitment to combating drug-related offenses, particularly those targeting vulnerable student populations.
The proliferation of such edibles poses significant health risks, including potential addiction and adverse psychological effects.
The University of Ilorin, known for its strict disciplinary measures, is expected to take appropriate action following this development.
The NDLEA also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug production or distribution.
