Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has said Nigeria’s economy has stabilised and is showing signs of recovery.
Soludo made the remarks on Monday while speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, where he argued that increased patronage of Nigerian-made goods could transform the country’s employment landscape.
“From a microeconomics standpoint, Nigeria has stabilised and is on the rise. I haven’t borrowed a dime since I became Governor,” Soludo said.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor stressed that Nigeria could not achieve the level of job creation it desires while citizens continue to depend heavily on imported goods.
He urged Nigerians to embrace locally made products as a pathway to job creation and economic growth.
“We cannot create the kind of jobs we want with all of us using foreign or imported goods,” he said.
Soludo also noted that many Nigerians still patronise foreign brands despite the country’s large population and manufacturing potential.
“I look in this room, and I see suits from Europe, America, and China. If all of us, 247 million Nigerians, wear only made-in-Nigeria, more than 10 million jobs will be created,” he added.
