Sports’ Journalists in Oyo State have been secretly undergoing individual training ahead of the ball juggling contest organized as a means of recreation and workout for exclusively members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) Oyo Chapter.
The event scheduled for 14 March at Pioneer Sports and Leisure Club, Jericho Ibadan is organized by Ayegbajeje Media Concept and sponsored by Play and Device Limited.
Explaining the rationale behind the unique sports event, Adedayo Adeboga, the CEO of Play and Device Ltd. The firm that bankrolled event said the idea is to appreciate the efforts of sports’ journalists that do work late hours in search of authentic news while striving to satisfy the yearnings of sport lovers through their various reports.
“Presently we’re organizing a ball juggling competition for sports journalists, just to appreciate their efforts which involved gathering authentic news at late hours and striving to satisfy the yearnings of sports lovers through their various reports.
“And the says goes that ‘all work and no play makes jack a dull boy’, so we felt let organize a competition which is first of its kind in Oyo State, to bring all sports’ writers together to have fun and network where exciting prizes will won by winners and that’s why i’m enjoying our media people to come and merry with us while they will get to know and familiarize with our gadgets and devices”, Play Boss noted.
He however stressed the importance of exercise to the wellbeing of professionals such as journalists, urging them to make conscious effort in maintaining good health via constant workouts which gave birth to the idea of drawing out media men to engage in the ball juggling contest as a form of workout.
“I am not a doctor, but one thing I know is that, to maintain a sound body and mind, one has to engage in physical body workout regularly, as exercise has been shown to improve your mood and decrease feelings of depression, anxiety and stress. It produces changes in the parts of the brain that regulate stress and anxiety.
“This is an opportunity for our media friends to unwind and relax, because I personally do a lot of workout, even within my household and I play football and watch football, in fact am a Chelsea fan”, Adeboga enthused.
