The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially backed calls for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
This support follows growing calls from influential political figures, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who pledged to step aside for former President Jonathan if he chooses to run.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, in an interview, emphasized Jonathan’s leadership qualities, including his commitment to national unity and his role in overseeing peaceful transitions of power, notably after the 2015 election.
Abdullahi pointed to Jonathan’s economic achievements, such as stabilizing inflation and managing foreign exchange rates, as reasons why he remains a strong candidate for the future of Nigeria.
The PDP’s endorsement indicates a shift in the party’s strategy as it continues to seek a leader who can unite the nation and restore prosperity.
