A tragic accident reportedly claimed the lives of 19 persons along the Pankshin axis of Plateau State.
The victims, who were from Kano, had attended a wedding ceremony in Barkin Ladi before the unfortunate incident occurred.
According to eyewitness who claimed anonymity said;
“The tragedy struck as 19 died in a fatal accident along Pankshin after attending a wedding in Barkin Ladi. The incident occurred on Saturday. The victims were from Kano and had attended a wedding in Barkin Ladi. They decided to take shorter route through Barkin Ladi to Kano when the tragedy occurred.
Unfortunately, while people were helping them out of the vehicle, it caught fire and trapped the deceased”.
While some passengers, including the driver, managed to escape the burning vehicle, the survivors reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Area, Felix Gonung, was said to have facilitated the immediate transfer of the injured victims from Pankshin General Hospital to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for intense care.
Gonung was accompanied by the Health Councillor, Lengyang Tali, the Police Divisional Officer, and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC).
He also ensured that all those with minor injuries received treatment and were transported back to Kano State.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident as investigation continues.
