The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, has said that the President is not afraid to reverse his decisions whenever he realizes that an error may have been made.
Onanuga stated this on Arise TV while reacting to the President’s recent acts of clemency and pardons granted to certain individuals, including Maryam Sanda, who had been convicted for the murder of her husband.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu’s decision reflects a sense of compassion and readiness to act in the best interest of justice and humanity.
“President Tinubu is not afraid to reverse himself if he feels he has made an error, and he has done so in these cases of clemency and pardons,” Onanuga said.
Speaking on the controversial inclusion of Maryam Sanda among those granted pardon, Onanuga described her crime as a “crime of passion,” adding that such incidents can arise in the heat of emotional conflict.
“Maryam Sanda’s crime was a crime of passion; anything can happen between a man and a woman in the heat of an argument,” he explained.
The presidential aide maintained that the gesture of clemency demonstrates President Tinubu’s humane approach to governance and his belief in second chances, even in cases that have generated widespread public debate.
