Loyal lawmakers from Rivers State, aligned with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, have discreetly retracted a court affidavit that confirmed their defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Led by Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, these pro-Wike lawmakers in Rivers State visited the Federal High Court in Abuja to withdraw part of the affidavit they had previously sworn to. This affidavit was related to Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1681/2023, where Amaewhule stated, under oath, that he and 26 other lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly were compelled to join the APC on December 5, 2023.
Sources informed our correspondent that they successfully withdrew the affidavit, which served as the basis for obtaining court orders that allowed them to remain in office.
In paragraph 14 of the affidavit, which has now been withdrawn, Amaewhule and the other lawmakers claimed they were “faced with uncertainty and confusion within the 2nd Defendant due to divisions in the political party,” and therefore felt it necessary to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on December 5, 2023.
