Former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ike Ibe has mourned the death of former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Prince Ajibola Afonja, describing it as a reminder that life is vanity.
The former Minister and former Chairman of First Bank Holdings died on Sunday night at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan.
In a condolence message, Hon. Ibe expressed shock over the loss of who he described as a symbol of love, friendship, compassion.
“He inspired and encouraged us in very unassuming ways. He would always make sure you eat whenever you visited and took any step necessary to address any issues that was bothering you. A great Prince of Oyo, former minister of Labour and former chairman of first bank, baba’s friendship and compassion knew no tribal boundaries or age.“ he said.
The former Imo state trade representative in the US described Afonja as true friend and supporter.
“A committed Muslim who built churches and mosques in different places and encouraged all people. He was one of my biggest supporters and sympathizers during my long quest for the governorship of Imo state.” Hon Ibe stated.
He further acknowledged the grief of losing such a prominent and respected figure in the society, praying for the tranquility of his soul.
