The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Chike Ogu on Saturday, 13th of August, 2022, declared open the first of it’s kind basketball tournament tagged “IGBO AMAKA BASKETBALL TOUR” at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
The basketball championship has teams from the five Southeastern states in Nigeria competing for laurels and is aimed at encouraging, training and developing youths while having them embrace our IGBO culture.
Kelechi Anuna a national team basketball player is organising the IGBO AMAKA BASKETBALL TOUR in collaboration with Adaora Elonu, the captain of the Nigeria women’s basketball team D’Tigress and Ezinne Kalu, a member of the Nigeria women’s basketball team with support from the Imo state Basketball Association led by Mr Kelechi Anosike.
Kelechi Anuna thanked Imo state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma for his great support towards the development of basketball and other sports in the state. He also pldged to continue to partner with the government to develop basketball at the grassroots.
