Starlink Becomes Nigeria’s Second-Largest Internet Provider

The satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, Starlink has emerged as Nigeria’s second-largest Internet Service Provider (ISP) by subscriber numbers.

According to recent data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Starlink has rapidly expanded its customer base, surpassing several traditional ISPs to secure its position.

The surge in subscriptions is attributed to its ability to provide high-speed, low-latency internet access, particularly in underserved and remote areas where conventional broadband infrastructure remains limited.

Since its launch in Nigeria in early 2023, Starlink has gained traction among businesses, remote workers, and rural communities seeking reliable internet connectivity.

The service’s competitive edge lies in its satellite-based technology, which bypasses the need for extensive terrestrial infrastructure.

However, concerns remain over the service’s pricing, which is higher than that of local competitors, potentially limiting accessibility for lower-income users.
