The Akwa Ibom State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commended the Chairman board of governors of Tower of Ivory Schools Nigeria, Ediene Abak, Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, on provision of sporting infrastructure in the school during a sports facility your.
A delegation of sports writers led by the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan FCAI, was received by the Chairman, Board of Governors of the institution, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (rtd.), in his office at the premises of the schools’ headquarters, Ediene Abak.
The SWAN chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan said the tour was necessary to allow SWAN members the opportunity to witness first-hand the conscious efforts made by the school towards the development of sports.
“We have heard the story of the renaissance of sports infrastructure in your school and we are here to witness it first-hand”. “As sports writers we are committed to the development and promotion of sports and it behoves us to report such development to the general public wherever it may take place”, the SWAN boss said.
Responding, the retired Police boss described his passion for sports as unrelenting and stated that one of the driving forces which propelled him into the building of sports infrastructure was to use sports as bait to sharpen the intellectual capacities of his students and pupils.
“I love my state and will always indulged in anything that will promote the development of my state. I ventured into schools because I intended to support the growth of education in my state. Today, we are building sports infrastructure as a deliberate attempt to leverage the love for sports to sharpen the intellectual capacities of our students and pupils”, Mr. Ekpoudom posited.
The infrastructure visited at the school which now has branches in Port Harcourt and other parts of the country are, a mini stadium of five hundred seating capacity complete with plastic seats and a standard football field which has a reinforced aluminium goalposts, modern basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, two badminton courts and a standard indoor sports hall.
Others are, a long jump pitch, a fully-furnished squash court and a standard swimming pool.
At the end of the tour, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan expressed satisfaction with the standard of the facilities and urged his members to report the same.
Goodwill messages were received from a former south-south Vice President of SWAN, Elder Justice Udousoro and Evangelist Uwem Ekoh who is a former State Chairman of the Association.
