ABUJA, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 individuals into the boards and leadership of 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery across strategic institutions.
The appointments, announced on Monday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, take immediate effect.
Among the notable appointments is former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, who was named Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). He will lead the agency’s board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, while the incumbent Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors remain on the board.
President Tinubu also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa (Rtd.) as Chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission, with former Lagos lawmaker Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas emerging as the Commission’s Secretary.
Other appointments into the Wages Commission include Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian (Benue), Oladele Olatubosun (Oyo) and Yakubu Umar Barde (Kaduna) as commissioners, while Dr. Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) were named members.
In another major development, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.
The President further appointed Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Also appointed is Engineer Julius Oloro as Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Kwara State, succeeding Dr. A.R. Kamal, who passed away in January.
President Tinubu also constituted the Fiscal Responsibility Commission board, naming Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Chairman. Other members are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele, and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
In the education sector, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was earlier reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF).
To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mathias Byuan, the former Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), President Tinubu appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja, an economist, legal scholar and current Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), as the new Executive Director.
According to the Presidency, all the appointments take effect immediately, reflecting the administration’s commitment to repositioning critical government institutions for improved efficiency, accountability and national development.
