President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on herder associations across the country to fully embrace the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development.
Speaking on Wednesday, 27, November 2025, the President said the administration’s decision to create the ministry was driven by the need to modernize Nigeria’s livestock sector, reduce tensions in agrarian communities, and curb insecurity linked to open grazing practices.
According to him, the initiative was created to provide lasting solutions to decades-long conflicts between herders and farmers.
“Our administration created the Livestock Ministry to address the persistent clashes between herders and farmers.
“I call on all herder associations to take advantage of it, end open grazing and surrender illegal weapons.” Tinubu stated.
He urged herders to explore the ministry’s programmes aimed at facilitating ranching, improving livestock management and promoting peaceful coexistence with farming communities.
The President also emphasized that the government would not tolerate the possession of illegal arms by any group.
Tinubu further assured that his administration will continue to protect rural livelihoods and support modern agricultural systems across the federation.
