Hon. Sunday Asefon, The Presidential Assistant on Students Engagement to His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has commended the Management of the University of Nigeria Nsukka for taking proactive steps by suspending a lecturer in the institution for attempting to sexually assault a female student of the University.
The lecturer, Mr. Mfonobong Udoudom, a Peace and Conflict Resolution and Nigerian People’s and Culture lecturer at the School of General Studies Programme Unit of the university was seen in a viral video clip putting on only shorts in his office where he was said to have attempted to molest the student after threatening to fail the female student in his course if she refused to have an affair with him in his office.
Hon. Asefon commended the Management of the institution for the indefinite suspension of the randy lecturer and for Constituting a disciplinary panel by the university to investigate the incident as it will continue to serve as a deterrent to other randy lecturers who might be planning to take advantage of their students. Hon. Asefon stated that his office frowns against all forms of sexual assault against the female students as such actions poses negative consequences on the psyche of the affected Students.
He stated that his office will follow up the matter to a logical conclusion to ensure that justice is well served.
Meanwhile, spokesperson of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Mr Omeaku, stated that the university has zero-tolerance for sexual misconducts involving its staff and students, adding that the institution is among a few universities in Nigeria that has a Sexual Harassment Policy guiding relationship between staff and students of the institution.
“As a university, we are committed to protecting our students from any form of abuse and exploitation, and the university management will not hesitate to punish Mr Mfonobong David Udoudom, according to our rules, if he is found guilty by our disciplinary panel”.
