Victims of flood disaster have received intervention from an association, the Federation of International Women Lawyers (FIDA) Borno State chapter, in Maiduguri.
The intervention includes sanitary pads for women, detergents and other essentials.
The beneficiaries are survivors of the devastating flood that ravaged many parts of Borno State’s capital, Maiduguri and Jere and Konduga local government areas in September.
While some of them have returned to their homes to rebuild it, others who lost everything were still scattered across the city, seeking shelter in unofficial internally displaced persons settlements.
Led by it’s chairperson, Falmata Harun, the organization visited flood-affected community in Lagos Street area to express their sympathy and provide aid to women and children who have been displaced by the flood.
The association expressed its condolences to the victims and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting women and vulnerable children.
They also provided guidance to the beneficiaries on child safety and encouraged them to be vigilant against any form of abuse or exploitation.
Various organizations, including government agencies, NGOs, philanthropists, and individuals, have stepped up to provide relief efforts, offering shelter, food, water, medicine, and financial assistance to the victims of flood.
However, there are still thousands of victims who are unable to access support and interventions.
This is not only on individual victims but on several important organizations and essential infrastructures like schools, hospitals, markets and others across the state.
