PDP Senator and anti corruption crusader and former Senator representing Imo East, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (SamDaddy) has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s future would be brighter only if her leaders could shun greed and corruption.

Senator Anyanwu described corruption as a cankerworm that has eaten dip into the country’s political and economic fabrics, maintaining that until those in authority see their positions as a call to serve, the future of the nation would continue to remain in limbo.

The vibrant Lawmaker who contributed in no small measure during the Nigerian eight Senate regretted that instead of those elected into positions of authority to serve humanity, they were busy enriching themselves thereby weakening the fight against corruption.

He said this while felicitating with Nigeria at her 60th Independence anniversary.

According to him, at 60, the country had gotten to the stage where her citizens would be producers of goods rather than consumers of products, and wondered how things would be better if government does not provide conducive environment.

He said, “Nigerians are talented people who desire the best for their country. The curiosity to produce goods and services are there, but the country has failed to provide conductive environment. If Nigerians in Aba, Abia State could produce the best shoes compared to the ones produced in Italy, while Nnewi, in Anambra state parades the best auto spare parts producers in the entire West Africa, won’t they do better if conductive environment is provided?”

While describing as absurd, the Federal Government’s decision to increase both electricity tariff and fuel pump prices, maintained that those moves were the reason the country has refused to move forward.

“How is government assisting the masses with constant power supply? Do our leaders in various public offices have the good intention to move Nigeria forward? Until these problems and challenges are tackled, surely, Nigeria will still succeed, but her chances of survival may be delayed” He submitted.

Senator Anyanwu further wondered how the nation’s tertiary institutions could produce Mechanical Engineers in their huge numbers on yearly basis when the country cannot boast of a made in Nigeria bicycle.

He said that at 60, Nigeria should have genuinely reflected the mantra of “giant” of Africa in her dealings rather than been over dependent on foreign importations.

Senator Anyanwu therefore stressed the need for all hands to be on deck towards the revitalization and revamping of the nation’s economy, while calling on leaders to have a change of attitude with a view to realizing the Nigeria’s project.
