Imo State Government has noted with deep concern the circulation of a fake announcement inviting pensioners to a verification exercise from February 8th to February 18th this year.

Our Government House reporter reveales that the fake announcement was purported to have been signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

Commissioner Emelumba therefore stated that for the avoidance of doubt, Government at no time invited any set of pensioners for any kind of verification whatsoever.

“Again at no time did the Information Commissioner or any Government official author or authorised any announcement of such.

“There is no doubt that this is another cheap blackmail by the opposition to cause confusion among our senior citizens to ultimately embarrass the state government.

If the announcement was genuine and emmanated from Government, it would have been aired first by Imo broadcasting corporation and Government house press will publish the release.

The public, especially the pensioners should disregard the fake announcement as there is no verification of pensioners in the dates indicated.

Government will always use credible media to educate and inform the citizens about its programmes and policies.

Declan Emelumba however adviced Imo pensioners to please be guided accordingly while the Government is poised to Continue paying their pensions as at when due.
