Emergency call has gone to the Government of Imo state through the ministry of works for regular inspections and regulations of quality of work by Contractors handling Imo roads.
This is as a result of loopholes found manifest on the already approved roads. It is observed by 9News Nigeria reporters that what is going on at various construction sites of some of the major roads in the state, is not encouraging especially on Owerri Orlu road, Owerri Okigwe road, MC/Urratta road, Nekede/Ihiagwa road, World Bank road, Umugwama road and other roads in Owerri Municipal Council.
These roads are major roads, but the contractors handling the said roads are not doing solid work. On some of these roads being constructed, today you see red sand, next month you will see gravel, next you see smoothening of the road by the handlers.
This is therefore a call for regular inspections by the Ministry of works to enforce the required standard of work to stand the test of time.
Recall that, previous administration was synonymous with “china road” ,a standard Imolites condemned and jettisoned but regretted why some contractors doing recent road projects are returning back to such a wicked standard to ridicule the efforts of 3R Government.
Meanwhile, the Governor had approved the construction of 135 kilometers of rural roads, five kilometers in each of the 27 local government areas, before the return of the next rainy season and contracts must reciprocate this gesture to deliver solid work.
A tour round the approved sites will showcase the standard of work the contractors are coming up with. This has to be a caution to stop such bad work while Government is expected to enforce laws to regulate standards and release funds to execute and speed up these roads to completion before the arrival of the rainy season.
Contractors must be called to order Immediately to live up to expectation and be ready to deliver. These roads mentioned above are major busy roads that have millions of users and heavy duty vehicles ply on same roads on regular basis.
Our correspodent in Owerri gathered that the construction of 135KM roads in Imo by GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma is indeed a fulfilment of 2022 People’s Budget. Let good work be done by contractors handling Imo roads.
