Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El Rufai has denied reports making the rounds that he is set to be a running mate to the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi in next year’s presidential election if he decides to contest
El-Rufai denied the report when he appeared on Channel TV’s “Politics Today,”
The governor explained that he needs to rest after his tenure and that he would only accept the offer if President Muhammadu Buhari insists.
According to him, Amaechi has the right like any other qualified Nigerian to contest the position, noting that he is not running for any office.
“I’ve said over and over that I’m not a contestant for any office. I’m not aspiring for anything. If Governor Rotimi Amaechi is interested in running for any office, he has the right to do so. But I’m not running for anything and I’m not going to be on his ticket,” he said.
“I’m physically tired because I do take my work seriously. The last eight years, I’ve worked myself flat out and I’m not young anymore,” he added.
The former Rivers State governor is being rumored to be the preferred candidate of President Muhammadu Buhari to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress in next year’s presidential election.
This is even though he is yet to declare his intentions to contest.
