From Princely Onyenwe, Abuja

For the first time in 4-5 years, the Calabar Port received a 196 Meters long vessel, the Value Tyler from Singapore, 9News Nigeria reports.

The bulk cargo vessel which berthed at about 7:00pm 30th June, 2022 contained 204 heavy duty trucks, 22 cubic meters of general cargo including 5,000 pipes and other containerized items.

This is part of concerted efforts by the Buhari Administration to decongest the Lagos Port and diversify the Nigerian economy.

Between January and May 2022, ship traffic into Calabar Port recorded high returns. The number of vessels received stood at 72, GRT: 1,611,441, Cargo Throughput: 990,154 and container TEUS: 16.

Within the period under review, the revenue generated by the Port in dollars include $6, 598,085.42 while actual revenue collected in dollars was $5,786,634.51. The revenue generated in Naira stood at N645,747,194.06 while revenue in Naira collected was N309,286,187.12.

While Speaking in connection to the development in the port, Diala told News men that Nigerians may wish to see the glass as half full or as half empty, but. he see it as half full, based on verifiable facts and evidence.

In his words “some of us are not distracted; even as we are equally in pains, like the rest of the world. We understand why. We are rebuilding a nation and we have almost one year to continue doing so under PMB.

“Let me repeat: WHOEVER will take over the reigns from 2023 MUST be someone who knows, understands, appreciates, ready, willing and capable of carrying and building on these stridesso far recorded by the Buhari-Led adminstration.

Emotional Gerrymandering, Lies And Noise Making Will Not Cut It. We will stay focused, Uche Diala pointed out.

In the contrary, majority of NIGERIANs are blaming the Buhari-Led Government for the fall in the operations of sea Ports across the country while calling on the next incoming adminstration to braise up actions to improve the sea Ports and even extablish more.
