The General Manager, IMO ENTRACO, Engr. Francis Chukwu has called on all Imolites to support the good policy of Imo state government on the improvement of the environmental and ecosystem degradation across the state.
He stated this as today Monday 5-06-2023 marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, which focuses on solutions to plastic pollution, using the hashtag and slogan #BeatPlasticPollution
June 5th annually is marked as World Environment Day. The United Nations General Assembly in 1972 designated the day as World Environment Day (WED) in order to raise the much needed awareness on the problems facing our environment and ecosystem such as air pollution, plastic pollution, illegal wildlife trade, sustainable consumption, sea level increase, food security among others.
Importantly, the World Environment Day (WED) which was first celebrated in 1973 under the slogan “Only one Earth” was designed to help drive change in consumption patterns and in National and International Environmental Policy.
It is significant to point out that this year 2023, marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, which focuses on solutions to plastic pollution, using the hashtag and slogan #BeatPlasticPollution.
Germanely, the theme of this year’s edition of World Environment Day which is, “Solutions to plastic pollution” is very apt and timely as it targets at providing lasting solutions to the issues of plastic as available records have indicated that more than 430 million tonnes of plastic is produced worldwide every year most of which are used only once as less than 10% are recycled while the rest are improperly disposed within the environment thereby constituting nuisance to the Environment. This situation indeed underscores the relevance of World Environment Day in mobilizing transformative action from every corner of the world.
Utmostly, it is on the premise of the above that I, ENGR. FRANCIS CHUKWU the General Manager of Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (IMO ENTRACO) on behalf of the Management and Staff of the Commission, thought it wise to use this medium to wish all good and Environmental friendly Imolites HAPPY WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY, while encouraging everyone to always keep their environment clean in order to maintain healthy living at all times.
