A group, Concerned Alumni of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, has asked the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to sanction Nonsonkwa for what it described as “unethical conduct.”
The said Nonsonkwa whose real name is Chinonso Theodore Uba has been accused by the group of taking advantage of his medium, Ozisa FM, to run down perceived enemies without giving them a fair right of hearing. It also accused him of taking sides on issues when he should be neutral as a broadcaster.
In a statement issued last Wednesday in Owerri, the group accused Nonsonkwa of lack of objectivity in his presentations because “he has made himself an interested party on issues for which he should follow with objectivity.”
It added that he has through his unprofessional conduct demeaned the broadcasting profession that has produced a lot of models.
The group further accused Nonsonkwa of peddling lies against the Management of their beloved almamater because he lacks the professional acumen to hear from both sides.
It also accused him of taking receiving inducement to defame the Management of the institution, which comprises people of high intellectual and moral standing.
The statement reads in part, “We condemn Nonsonkwa for displaying high level of ignorance on vital issues before taking sides. He lacks professional finesse in his reportage and speaks in an irrational manner.
We have it on good authority that he collected an inducement from some interested parties to make libelous presentations against the Rector and Management of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede. How can a broadcaster worth his name descend so low to be induced to speak against people? We understand that there is hunger in the land, but must everyone become desperate for money by blackmailing others. Indeed, there might not be anything different from rogue broadcasters and gun-wielding bandits on the roads.”
The group recalled that the said Nonsonkwa had recently been banned from making presentations on air, wondering why NBC should allow him again to continue in the business of spreading falsehood against people in authority to gain popularity, describing the act as cheap and retrogressive.
Also, the group condemned Nonsonkwa for making misleading videos aimed at defaming people’s character because he wants cheap popularity. It advised him to quit broadcasting if he is passionate about collecting money to make Facebook videos against individuals, calling on NBC to investigate the Facebook videos and posts of Nonsonkwa where his stock-in-trade is to attack people rather than issues.
“We invite the NBC to kindly investigate the Facebook posts and videos of Nonsonkwa. This is because he rarely posts contents that edify humanity, instead he posts materials where he attacks people with unfounded allegations and innuendos. He also throws caution to the wind to belittle people he attacks without any iota of respect for the offices they occupy. His victims are usually people in high authority since he receives high premium on them.
”Finally, the group berated Nonsonkwa for further misleading the public in a puerile publication where he made it seem that he was responding to the Management of the Polytechnic when instead he was joining issues with an article by Madu Giftus.
The release further reads thus: “It will be too condescending of an institution of higher learning to go dirty against an individual who is notorious for character defamation. What’s more, Nonsonkwa further played the victim in the publication, to play on the emotions of the public. In the main, he lied about having a human right association which he called Protect the Weak International Foundation. Rather than protect the weak, what Nonsonkwa protects is his pocket.
Our inquiry shows that no such group exists. He only uses it as a front to make money.
“Is it possible for a man who ran away with students’ school fees in Ifakala and refused to pay his teachers to claim to be fighting for the weak?
“We challenge Nonsonkwa to take up the fees of some indigent students to prove that he is serious about fighting for the weak. In his usual unguarded ways, he also made to dictate to the Management of the institution when to administer the CBT exam and when not to do so.
“This is a clear case of ignorance and sheer arrogance. It is the same hubris that makes him threaten the Management of the institution like an insolent police trainee labelling everyone as corrupt, when indeed he is a base character on wild goose chase.” The group frowned.
