Nigerian former minister and senator Alhaji Bello Maitama Yusuf has died at 76, 9News Nigeria has learnt.
Alhaji Maitama Yusuf who was the Sardauna of Dutse died in the early hours of Friday in Kano.
According to a source close to the family, the funeral prayer of Alhaji Hussaini Dalhatu is planned to take place after Jumu’at prayer at the Emir of Kano’s palace.
Alhaji Bello Maitama Yusuf, born in Gwaram, Jigawa State in 1947, was interior minister in 1981 and the minister of commerce in 1982.
In a condolence message, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar tweeted “Alhaji Maitama Yusuf, the Sardauna of Dutse, acquitted himself creditably in public service as a minister in the Second Republic and a Senator from 1999-2007.”
