London police are investigating five separate acid attacks from moped riders, with one victim suffering “life changing injuries.”
The attacks are believed to have occured within 90 minutes of each other in Hackney and Stoke Newington in East London on Thursday from 10.30pm.
Police said one of the victims, aged 32, was riding a moped when two other male riders pulled up alongside him, threw the substance in his face and stole his scooter.
The man was taken to an east London hospital in a stable condition.
Just 30 minutes after this incident, two males on a moped in Shoreditch High Street reportedly attacked another man with acid.
Then at 11.18pm, police received a call to a similar incident, a robbery in Cazenove Road where a corrosive substance had been thrown.
Police said the victim was rushed to hospital with “life-changing injuries.”
Officers were notified of two more moped incidents, including two men spraying liquid in the face of a man in traffic on Chatsworth Road and a similar attackon Upper Street.
Footage apparently showing a man being treated by paramedics for facial pain was posted on Twitter after the attack.
“We need to try and get water in your eyes, keep your eyes open,” a paramedic can be heard telling the shirtless man as they hold a bottle above his head.
The man told them the attack happened right on the street.
Police arrested a male teenager on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and robbery and all five incidents are being treated as linked.
