The Nigerian Professional Footballers Association, Borno State chapter, has organized a send-off ceremony for Major Chidi Afam of the Nigerian Army.
The event was held on Tuesday at Ramat Square, Maiduguri.
According to Aliyu Mustapha, El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club media officer, the ceremony is aimed at honoring the army officer for his contribution to securing Borno State and service to the nation.
Major Afam has been in the forefront of the fight against Boko-Haram terrorists in Borno and other parts of the northeast.
The event featured a match between Maiduguri Veterans team and the Nigerian Army team.
The match ended 4-3 in favor of the Nigerian Army.
The celebrant was also presented with a medal and a gadget at the end of the match.
In his remarks, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Danjuma Eldum, emphasized the importance of unity among Nigerians, reminding the audience that despite their differences, they are all created by the same God.
He call for continues unity and cooperation between the military and civilian population in the state.
In his response, Major Afam expressed his gratitude to the host, while also sharing his experiences since graduating from the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2011.
He promised to always contribute to the Borno community and offered his support to the veterans club.
The event concluded with prayers and refreshments.
