President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), approving a fresh five-year tenure to strengthen the agency’s role in national security.
According to State House press release issued on Friday, the renewed tenure took effect on Friday Febuary 27, 2026, following the expiration of his first tenure.
Dr. Audi was initially appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His first tenure concluded last week as he participated in activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.
President Tinubu directed the NSCDC boss to reposition the service to play a more prominent role in safeguarding critical national assets and supporting internal security efforts, especially as the police intensify operations against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism nationwide.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, Audi began his academic journey with Teachers Grade 11 Certificate before advancing professionally. He earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education Akwanga, later obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
He further secured a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar, a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice.
Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in 1996 and rose through the ranks after serving in multiple State commands.
He was promoted to Commandant in 2007 and later deployed to Office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters.
With his responsibility, the Presidency expects renewed reforms, stronger coordination with security agencies, and improved protection of lives, property, and critical infrastructure across the country.
The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
