The Concerned Citizens of Egbema, a sociocultural organization committed to the welfare and advancement of Egbema people at home and in the diaspora, has categorically refuted allegations of the existence of an IPOB/ESN camp in the Egbema West Field.

In a press statement issued on April 9, 2026, the group described as malicious and unfounded a publication credited to Zagazola Makama on April 7, 2026, which claimed that the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), were operating within the area.

The statement, signed by the Chairman, Alinso Wiseman Joe, and the Secretary, Onyekwere Frank, emphasized that there is no IPOB or ESN camp anywhere across the sixteen communities of Egbema.

According to the group, Concerned Citizens of Egbema is a professional and indigenous body comprising verifiable professionals, successful businessmen and women, politicians, clergymen, students, artisans, and community leaders dedicated to safeguarding the unity, peace, and development of Egbema.

The organization clarified that the Egbema West Field, located in Abacheke, is a peaceful farm settlement used for fishing and agricultural activities by the people of Abacheke and Mmahu, contrary to claims in the disputed publication.

The statement further noted that the area hosts over five multinational oil companies, including Renaissance, Pipeline Infrastructure, and Sterling Global. It added that the presence of military personnel and other security agencies strategically deployed by the government and oil companies makes it impossible for any proscribed armed group to operate undetected.

Describing the report as fictitious, the group alleged that it was sponsored by an unnamed former influential politician from Egbema seeking to regain political relevance at the expense of his people. It warned against acts of misinformation, propaganda, and falsehood capable of tarnishing the image and reputation of the community.

The organization also alleged that the said politician had recruited armed men stationed at Abacheke Estate to further his interests. It stressed that such actions pose a threat to the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the area.

The group noted that Egbema has experienced relative peace following several interventions by well-meaning sons and daughters of the land. It further observed that the recent media attack came shortly after the inauguration of the Orashi People Sustainable Progress Forum, during which Egbema youths showcased their contributions to community development.

As a responsible and professional body, the Concerned Citizens of Egbema urged all sons and daughters of Egbema to remain law-abiding and continue their legitimate businesses without fear or intimidation.

Importantly, the group called on the Inspector General of Police to thoroughly investigate the publication alleging the existence of an ESN camp in Egbema and bring those responsible for spreading misinformation to justice.
The statement reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development in Egbema.
