U.S. President Donald Trump has criticised Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, following a video that allegedly shows her referring to World War II as “World War Eleven.”
In a statement on Friday, Trump mocked the Minnesota lawmaker’s apparent mistake, saying he was “not surprised” by the comment while also repeating a long-standing personal allegation involving Omar’s family.
“A video surfaced recently of Ilhan Omar giving a speech referring to World War Two as World War Eleven. I’m not surprised, she also calls her brother ‘husband,’” Trump said.
The claim about Omar marrying her brother has previously circulated among Trump and his supporters, but Omar has denied the allegation, describing it as false and politically motivated.
Omar, a Somali-American lawmaker and one of the first Muslim women elected to the U.S. Congress, has frequently been targeted by political opponents over her views, background and outspoken criticism of U.S. foreign policy.
