Afrobeats star, song writer and music producer , David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has blasted the former media aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, after his remarks about the upcoming Osun gubernatorial election.
The ‘Electricity’ hitmaker lambasted the ex-presidential aide on Thursday on X after he suggested suggested his uncle and Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, could lose the poll.
The exchange began after Davido revealed that he was present when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu spoke with his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, following the controversy over freezing of Osun State Government’s account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ahmad responded by saying he had bookmarked Davido’s post and predicted that the singer would return to X to complain if the August 15 election did not go in Adeleke’s favour.
Davido then fired back, mocking Ahmed over his performance in an APC primary election, where reports say he received 16 votes. Davido wrote: U got 16 votes bro in the primaries. STFU”.
Ahmad responded by turning his argument towards Davido’s music career and Grammy record. He wrote: “We have talked enough about the number of votes I got in my primaries. Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair”.
The singer rejected the comparison, arguing that success should not be measured by a single award, pointing to his sold-out concerts, billions of streams and international influence and recognition as an examples of his achievements.
He then turned his criticism back toward Ahmad’s political career, accusing of having government backing but failing to secure enough support in his constituency.
Davido’s then concluded by saying that while Ahmad awaits for another government appointment, he would continue using his music and platform to inspire young people.
The exchange has since stirred reactions online, highlighting the intersection of entertainment and politics in Nigeria’s public discourse.
Meanwhile the Osun governorship race has gathered momentum, with APC’s Bola Oyebamiji and Accord Party’s incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke intensifying their campaigns ahead of the August 15 poll.
