Suspected Fulani herdsmen have taken over the abandoned relocation homes meant for the internally Displaced persons in Yelwata,Guma Local Government Area of Benue state.

In the aftermath of the numerous tragic attacks on some Benue communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen,more than a population of 10000 people have been leaving at the designated Internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps across the state.

At the moment,serious fear and tension have gripped Yelewata, following this sad reports that there supposed homes (IDPs resettlement homes) have been taken over by herdsmen.The homes are under construction by the Benue State Government.

According to sources who spoke to 9news Nigeria, the herdsmen have been grazing cattles at the abandoned construction site since morning and have refused to leave or relocate to another location.

The development has raised serious concerns among residents of Yelewata, who fear that the presence of armed men and their cattle at the site could further heighten insecurity in the community.

The situation is particularly troubling given Yelewata’s painful history, following the deadly attack on the community in June 2025 by suspected arméd Fûlani Herdsmen, which claimed 300 lives of many residents, mostly Tiv farmers.
