President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security and intelligence agencies to immediately commence a rescue operation for victims of the recent mass abduction in Niger State.
The President, in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, expressed outrage over the abduction and killing of innocent citizens, describing the perpetrators as “enemies of peace and enemies of humanity.”
The mass abduction occurred on Friday, 21 August, 2026, during Friday prayers in Dikera/Dekera village and nearby communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Tinubu condemned the attack as a cowardly assault on defenceless Nigerians and vowed that those responsible would not escape justice.
He extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the attack, praying that God grant the deceased eternal rest and give their loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
“You are not alone. The entire nation shares your anguish. We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you,” the President said.
Tinubu also directed the Service Chiefs to provide him with regular briefings on the progress of the rescue operation until all the abducted victims are accounted for.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would not allow acts of terrorism to undermine the country.
Tinubu stressed that the Federal Government would continue to defend citizens, protect communities and uphold the sanctity of human life.
The President further expressed solidarity with the people and government of Niger State.
“Terror will not cow Nigeria,” Tinubu declared.
