Jos — The Nigeria Police Force has arrested three suspects, including the biological mother of a two-year-old child over an alleged staged kidnapping incident in Plateau State.
The suspects were identified as 34-year-old Nasik Wuyep Sule, Catherine Davou, the child’s biological mother, and Luka Emmanuel Butdam
According to the police, Sule allegedly conspired with Catherine Davou to stage the kidnapping of her two-year-old child, Rito Jesse Davou, with the intension of demanding ransom from the family.
Police disclosed that the ransom demand was initially placed at N7 million, but was later allegedly increased to N15 million.
Investigations reportedly revealed that the child was kept at the residence of Nansik Wuyep Sule while the alleged kidnapping plot was being carried out.
Another suspect, Luka Emmanuel Butdam, was also accused of making ransom-related telephone calls to the child’s grandmother as part of the alleged scheme.
Following police intervention and investigation, the two-year-old child was successfully rescued and subsequently given medical attention before being handed over safely to his biological father.
The police have continued investigations into the case, while the arrested suspects are expected to face legal proceedings upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Authorities have continued to warn members of the public against criminal activities involving the exploitation of children and the staging of kidnapping incidents for financial gain.
