The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Chima Ofoeke over the suspected murder of 23-year-old Mmesoma Umeorini in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, October 23, 2026, saying the arrest followed a report by the victim’s mother that her daughter had been missing since October 16, 2026.
According to Ikenga, the mother had reported to the Divisional Police Officer of Umuchu Division that her daughter’s whereabouts remained unknown despite frantic efforts to locate her.
He said operatives of the command, acting on intelligence-led information and in collaboration with the Agunechemba security outfit in Uga, apprehended Ofoeke, who was identified as the deceased’s alleged ex-boyfriend.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to killing the victim following the breakdown of their relationship. He subsequently led detectives to the location where the victim’s remains were discovered and recovered, the police spokesperson stated.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and diligent investigation to ensure that justice is served.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to report missing persons and suspicious activities promptly to the police.
Ikenga added that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
