Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola index case is expected to be evacuated abroad for further medical treatment.
The 42-year-old female patient is expected to be flown out of Abuja, with arrangements reportedly made for a medical evacuation aircraft to transport her early Monday, October 26, 2026.
According to reports, footage showed a medical evacuation aircraft on the tarmac, with ground personnel preparing for the patient’s transfer.
The planned evacuation follows heightened efforts by Nigerian health authorities to contain the Ebola outbreak and prevent further transmission.
The Federal Government confirmed Nigeria’s first imported case of Ebola virus disease in more than a decade on October 20, 2026.
The patient, who recently travelled to Nigeria from Uganda, is infected with the Bundibugyo strain of the virus and has been receiving treatment in isolation.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified 53 primary contacts linked to the case, who are being monitored by public health officials.
