Acting minority leader of the House of Representatives, Chukwudi Onyema, has declared that he will become the House leader in a few days.
Mr Onyema, popularly known as Chuchu, said this at the ongoing emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the party secretariat in Abuja.
He said the PDP caucus in the House, whom he said had remained steadfast, will no longer be referred to as the minority. The All Progressive Congress currently has the majority in terms of numerical strength.
“Hopefully by our next meeting, we’ll have a change of nomenclature,” he said.
The PDP is expecting some members of the splinter group of the APC, known as the R-APC.
The group, which is comprised of aggrieved members of the ruling party have formed a coalition with the PDP and 38 other political parties to defeat the ruling APC.
The NEC meeting is ongoing.
