President Muhammadu Buhari will today visit Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in an effort to boost the morale of the Nigerian troop fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the North east geopolitical zone.
9news Nigeria learnt that all arrangements for the visit have been concluded. Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmed had on Monday announced on his twitter hadle that the President would be visiting Maiduguri today.
Our correspondent reports that already the advance team of the Presidency has since been dispatched to Maiduguri.
During the visit, it was gathered that the President would declare open the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) annual conference scheduled to hold at the Borno State Government House, Maiduguri.
The COAS conference which attracts the top brass of the Nigerian Army was earlier scheduled for Benin City in Edo State. It was however cancelled following the killing of soldiers by Boko Haram insurgents in Metele.
It was gathered the President would use the visit to meet with Nigerian troop.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has cancelled his trip to Daura, his hometown in Katsina State. The president was to spend five days in Daura, starting from Tuesday.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed the cancellation of the Daura trip, saying it was a planned private visit and not casual leave.
