In a powerful call for national healing and cohesion, Ambassador Dickson Omoregie, President of the South-South Community, FCT–Abuja, has emphasized the urgent need for interfaith collaboration to foster peace and unity in Nigeria.
Speaking at the dedication of the Divine Mercy Catholic Chaplaincy of the Nigerian Police Force, located within the Police Secondary School, Minna, ambassador Omoregie declared that, “The collaboration of various religions in Nigeria marks the beginning of endless peace.”
The chaplaincy, sponsored by former Inspector General of Police and Board of Trustees Chairman of the South-South Community, Chief (Sir) Mike Okiro (Rtd), was dedicated during a colorful event officiated by His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Martin Uzoukwu, Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese. The celebration also coincided with Chief Okiro’s 76th birthday.
Amb. Omoregie, in his goodwill message, urged leaders across all spheres to prioritize religious tolerance, mutual respect, and unity as pillars for sustainable development. “Only in a peaceful and united environment can Nigeria truly thrive,” he stated.
The event attracted a cross-section of national leaders, including representatives of the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the Governor of Niger State, the state’s Commissioner of Police, and the Wife of the Governor, among other dignitaries, symbolizing a rare blend of unity across faith, region, and politics.
The dedication of the chaplaincy, coupled with the tribute to Chief Okiro’s enduring legacy as a statesman and peace advocate, echoed a collective national yearning for purposeful leadership rooted in faith and unity.
