Cognizant of its primary responsibility of protection of life and property, government of Anambra state has embarked on record taking of deficient buildings.
Officials of the state Physical Planning Board, led by the Executive Chairman, Barrister Chike Maduekwe first paid a visit to the Motorcycle parts International Market, Nnewi, where many buildings were marked, either for being structurally deficient, or for not having government approval.
Though the market was not in session, leadership of the market led by its Chairman, Mr. Obinna Okechukwu took the enforcement team round the market premises.
Some of the buildings within the market, it was gathered, were built on waterways, thereby causing flooding during heavy rains.
House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Lands, and Member representing Idemili North Constituency, Hon. Arthur Chiekwu, among others were present.
Barrister Maduekwe who emphasized that the Board’s activity was pursuant to its role of controlled development, directed the owners of the buildings to appear before the Board on Monday or the buildings will be demolished, compliant to Anambra State laws.
