Breaking: National Population Commission To Conduct Digital Census In 2023/Set To Test Run App Via Census Situation Room

National population commission now has Census Situation Room to capture digital counting across the 6 geo-political zones in Nigeria.

The launch of the 2023 Census Situation room in Abuja Nigeria is said to be a step in that direction and has continued to attract commendations.

Honourable Federal Commissioners of of the National population Commission NPC are poised to set more strengthened records in the census commission to capture every geo-political zone in Nigeria.

The Commissioners represented each of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria at a summit held on Wednesday 18-05-2022 in Abuja Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the NPC has pledged their unalloyed supports and cooperation to the success of the forthcoming 2023 National census across the zones of the country.

9News Nigeria reporters gathered that the National Population Commission (NPC), on Wednesday launched its Situation Room as part of preparations for the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Chairman of NPC, Nasir Isa Kwara who officially launched the “National Population commission’s 2023 Census Situation Room,” at the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja, explained that the Situation Room would afford the Commission the opportunity to interact and educate the Nigerian populace seeking information concerning the 2023 Census, receive feedbacks and correct misconceptions regarding the census methodology, processes and procedures.

While Speaking to the press, Kwarra reiterated the irrevocable commitment of the Commission to conduct a digital census in 2023 that would be credible, reliable and acceptable to Nigerians.

He noted that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Council of State had already approved the conduct of the Population and Housing Census slated for April 2023, adding that the Commission would conduct a Trial Census in June, 2022.

He said, “As you are aware, the Commission will be carrying out a digital census in 2023 and a Trial Census in June 2022.

“It is in this regard, that we will leave no stone unturned to make sure that all corresponding technical equipment meets the required standards for effective delivery of the 2023 census goal, which is a credible, reliable and acceptable Population and Housing Census.

“The Situation Room that we are officially launching will serve as the 2023 Census Communication Hub.

“It will be multifunctional as it will serve as the Situation room for all Census activities and critical vital meetings that concern the growth and progress of the Commission for Census activities and beyond.

“The Situation room will ensure constructive and proactive engagement of the census process.

“In our determination to deliver on the mandate of the Commission, it is imperative to take steps towards closer interaction and strategic engagement with the public.

“The launch of the 2023 Census Situation room is a step in that direction.

“We are convinced that the Census Situation Room will provide a veritable interaction ground towards ensuring credibility and acceptability of the next census.

Kwarra who commended the staff for their dogged determination, commitment and resilience, tasked them to work assiduously and be more ingenious to ensure huge success of the census exercise.

While assuring that the salaries of the staff would be improved soon, NPC Boss noted that the National Salaries and Wages Commission had already begun the review of their salaries and wages, which would be presented to Mr. President for final approval.

He underscored the need for training and re-training of staff in order to close the skill gaps, assuring that he would give priority to the capacity building of staff.

As part of measures to create conducive working environment, Kwarra, revealed that the permanent site of the headquarters of NPC in Abuja would be completed in the next six months.

He, therefore, charged staff to shun sharp practices in the discharge of their duties, to ensure reliable, accurate and acceptable census.

In her goodwill message, Barrister Patricia Kupchi, Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Benue State, congratulated the Chairman of NPC, on the digitisation of the operations of the Commission for the conduct of 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Kupchi, on behalf of the Federal Commissioners from the North Central, assured that with the support received from President Buhari, that the Commission was set to conduct census that would meet international standard.

She said, “We are glad to let Nigerians know that the foundation we have laid, is world class.

“We have already received two international awards for the process in the conduct of the Census.

“The Census which is the crowning glory cannot be any less from the foundation that has been laid.

“We had already undertaken a study tour of South Africa. We are replicating it. I dare say, we are replicating it even in superior standard.

“The App we are using is home-grown and 2023 Census”You count, and you be counted.”

On the contrary, NIGERIANs are challenging the reason behind the digital counting across the country while the 2023 Election is fast approaching, stating that the digital census may be manipulated.
