The Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru, Anambra State, Rt. Rev. Prosper Amah, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on completing his first term in office and addressing the challenge facing Nigerians before seeking reelection in 2027.
The cleric made the call while speaking with journalists in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to him, hunger economic hardship and insecurity are among the major challenges confrontinh Nigerians, which the Federal Government should provide and address urgently.
Bishop Amah warned that President Tinubu should not become preoccupied with preparations for the second term while several pressing national challenges remain unresolved.
He also expressed concern that some individuals close to the President might be providing him with misleading information about the actual situation in the country to protect their positions and appointments in government.
The bishop alleged that some politicians might be reluctant to tell the President the truth for fear of losing their positions, a situation he said could prevent the administration from fully understanding the difficulties Nigerians are experiencing.
He emphasised the importance of giving political leaders honest advice to enable them to make decisions that would improve the welfare of citizens.
Bishop Amah further called on the Tinubu administration to prioritise economic recovery, tackle insecurity and ease the hardship facing Nigerians rather than focus excessively on political calculations ahead of the 2027 general election.
He maintained that the President should complete his first tenure and demonstrate his achievements before asking Nigerians to grant him another mandate.
