Court Adjourns Indefinitely as YouTuber “Very Dark Man” Faces Forgery Allegations in Defamation Case

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, presided over by Justice Nwosu Iheme, has adjourned a case involving popular YouTuber and social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, also known as “Very Dark Man.” The case, filed by Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, founder of Christ Mercyland Church, alleges defamation and libel against the social media figure.

In today’s proceedings, counsel representing Prophet Fufeyin, through the church’s representative Mr. Christsantus Umealakei, sought to delay the hearing until 11:30 AM. However, this was strongly opposed by Mr. Ademola Oyedodun, counsel for “Very Dark Man,” who applied for ₦200,000 in costs against Prophet Fufeyin and requested that further court processes, including a counterclaim and an injunction motion, be served on the church’s representative present in court.

The presiding judge rejected the application for costs and the request for serving documents in court, instead remanding the case back to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court for reassignment to the regular High Court for further determination. The judge, however, maintained the existing status quo in the case.

A significant development in the proceedings involved new documents filed by Prophet Fufeyin’s legal team, accusing “Very Dark Man” of forging church receipts. According to the filings, the receipts allegedly used by the YouTuber to claim the purchase of spiritual items from the church were forged.

A disclaimer from Christ Mercyland Church accompanied the documents, highlighting discrepancies between the receipts presented by “Very Dark Man” and the church’s official accounting records. The receipts were described as altered, with mutilated figures and changed dates.

Prophet Fufeyin’s lawyer, Ihensekhien Samuel Junior, told the press that steps were being taken to ensure a thorough investigation of “Very Dark Man” and the possibility of criminal charges over the forgery allegations.

The case stems from a series of alleged defamatory posts made by “Very Dark Man” on social media, particularly Facebook, which Prophet Fufeyin claims have caused him significant damage to his reputation. The Prophet’s counsel emphasized that these posts had caused incalculable harm to his client’s standing within his church and business community.

Further court action is expected following the reassignment of the case.
